There has been a viral video of a young woman believed to have been involved in a bank theft.

The alleged young lady was pictured by the CCTV camera on Monday, 27th April 2026, at the Capitec ATM at Tembisa Plaza on Freedom Day.

Sources following the news said she was seen leaving the bank immediately after withdrawing some cash belonging to another customer of the bank.

Reports suggest that CCTV footage shows her exiting the premises through a rear gate shortly after the transaction. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed the full sequence of events or the exact circumstances surrounding the withdrawal.

Police have confirmed that a theft case has been registered and investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have issued a public notice urging the individual seen in the footage to come forward to assist with inquiries. Members of the public with relevant information are also encouraged to report to Thembisa South SAPS.

The affected account holder has reportedly appealed for the return of the funds, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution.

As the footage circulated online, social media users began debating both the incident itself and broader issues around ATM security and responsibility.

Some users questioned how the situation occurred in the first place, raising concerns about possible ATM malfunction or banking system errors. Others argued that financial institutions should take responsibility in cases where transactions appear irregular.

Another segment of users took a more reflective stance, suggesting that situations involving unattended cash at ATMs can create ethical dilemmas, with differing views on whether taking such money constitutes theft.

Authorities have already launched a public notice and have urged the woman to report to Thembisa South SAPS or contact Thembisa Online News.
