DJ Maphorisa has finally opened up on how he delved into the amapiano genre and the person who inspired him to join the piano movement. Amapiano, which originated in South Africa, has become an international music genre, recognized in almost every part of the world. During his recent interview with BBC Xtra, DJ Maphorisa talked deep about the amapiano and how far the genre has brought him.
In the interview, Maphorisa credited Wizkid for being the one who inspired him to start doing amapiano. He said on Wizkid, hearing the sound for the first time, took interest in asking which sound was it.
According to him it was during Wizkid’s visit South African where they partied together that the whole thing started.
During Wizkid’s visit to South Africa, the two visited Pretoria, where Phori performed a set.
After his performance, a resident DJ took over, playing Amapiano tracks. Phori noted how much Wizkid enjoyed the music and even asked questions about the sound.
Seeing Wizkid’s enthusiasm for the genre, DJ Maphorisa decided to make sounds which has now eveolved into a global genre.
